Biography

I’ve always been engaged artistically and maintained my interest parallel to my liberal arts education in Los Angeles and during a long period of study in Vienna, Austria. From 1999 to 2004, my collaboration with Lisa Rosenblatt as Dream Coordination Office realized eight conceptual projects, documented on www.dreamcoordinationoffice.net. From 2007 to 2013, I was involved with the Grafton Fine Arts and Music Festival as artist and coordinator. Drawing on my background in journalism, I also support and write about dream projects, which Dream Coordination Office names as a mission. I’ve participated in numerous group exhibitions, also as a member of Good Press Printmakers, documented on goodpressprintmakers.com (see also: Show Participation). I use a range of media including printmaking (woodcuts, linocuts, screens, stencils, etc.), fiber art, drawing, painting, assemblage, writing.

Artist Statement

Of the myriad forms of artistic expression that I know, visual art has been the most accessible to me in recent years. The topics I explore in life find their way into my drawings, paintings, prints, assemblages, carvings, etc.: my inwardly reflective moments turn into outwardly expressive ones. Maybe I keep up my artistic practice out of a need for work-life balance; ironically, I am more socially engaged through an intense, solitary occupation with visual media. It alleviates some discord in the human condition when I tap into the “grand narratives” of individual freedom, women’s history and liberation, healing the environment, and “communalism” in the sense of Murray Bookchin.
